Kaime tees to victory on home course

  • Esther Karuga and  Stephen Mugunyu took the first and second nine with 21 and 19 points respectively while the staff winner was  Stephen Kamanda with 29 points.

Nakuru Golf Club’s leading lady golfer Shiru Kaime was at her best at the weekend, beating a field of over 100 golfers to win the Pan Africa Life Cancer Challenge tournament at the par-73 Nakuru Club course.

Playing off handicap 10, Kaime posted 19 points in the first nine and 21 points at the back nine for a total of 40 points.

She bogeyed the first four holes in the front nine, parred up to the seventh, dropped a shot at the eighth but wound up the nine with a birdie for four over par 40 (19).
At the back nine Kaime bogeyed the 10th and 18th for two over par 39 (21) points.

“Its long since I won in Nakuru. The course is good. The fairways are particularly wide but the greens were not so good,’’ said Kaime, who will lead a team of five from Nakuru to the grand finale of the series in September at Muthaiga.

She won by two points from Kysto Sisenda (38 points) while Nakuru Golf Club chairman Michael Kandie (36) was third. Lady Captain Susan Gichuki (36) took the ladies’ crown ahead of N.Meto from Nandi Bears (35).

Leading the guests on 28 points was  E N Kimotho with 28. Anoop Sahota, with 24, was the best junior, beating Dan Njenga on 18 points. 

Mukabi wins in Thika

At Thika, Golf Park’s Dorcas Mukabi carded the lowest gross score of 86 gross to beat Muthaiga’s Liz Armitage by a shot during the CIC Insurance-sponsored Ladies Open. Railway’s Rosemary Omanyo took the nett title with a score of nett 69.

Finishing second was Purity Muthoni on 72 nett after beating Windsor’s Phylis Kimbo on countback. Winning the bronze title was home player Rose Ikenye who posted gross 93 to win by four shots from -93, Lynda Kinyua  on 97. The nett winner was D.Shah  with nett 69,  beating Florence Githiori on countback while Rose Kiai  was third on 71 nett.

In the men’s Monthly Mug, E.Ndungu won the A division with 73 nett ahead of David Karuma on 75. The B division winner was J.Gachomba on 69, winning by a shot from Ben Mugambi while Benard Mureithi took the C division with nett 70. He also won by one shot from Samuel Chege.
