Karume back with a bang in Ladies’ game

  • Taking the silver division title, also with 84 gross, was Nakuru’s Shiro Kaime, who beat home player and former national women’s team champion Mary Karano on countback. Kitale’s Hanna Rutenbar was third on 85 gross.
  • At Ruiru, John Geita posted 37 points to win the Lady Captain’s Prize by two points from Isaac Gethinji and Fr. Wilfred Mwaura. The ladies prize went to Irene Wamoro (33) while Nobert Nabwire (37) was the guest winner.
  • The ladies’ guest winner was Phillis Kimbo on 23 and the men’s guest winner was Fred Mwihia with 36 points. Leading the Kigwe Family who have been sponsoring the event for many years, was Martin Gatheca on 36.

Kiambu Golf Club’s Wanjiru Karume, who has been out of action in the national golf scene for some time now, made a great comeback, winning the overall title of the Kabete Ladies Open at Vet Lab Sports Club at the weekend.

Karume, now playing off handicap nine, carded 84 gross to take home the overall prize plus the floating trophy donated by Vet Lab lady captain Mary Maingi.

Florence Macharia (74 nett) won the silver division nett title after beating Irene Maina on countback.

The new bronze division champion is Geetah Dhall who carded 95 gross to win by four shots from Ashley Awuor who beat Beatrice Kamau on countback.

Jennifer Karing’u won the nett on 75, three shots better than Sarah Hwang. The subsidiary event saw Amos Kaale return 40 points to win ahead of Walter Macharia on 39 after beating Elisha Ogonji on countback.

Martin Makundi and Kariuki Njenga won the nines with 21 points each in the tournament sponsored by Madison Insurance Company.

GEITA WON IN RUIRU

At Ruiru, John Geita posted 37 points to win the Lady Captain’s Prize by two points from Isaac Gethinji and Fr. Wilfred Mwaura. The ladies prize went to Irene Wamoro (33) while Nobert Nabwire (37) was the guest winner.

The ladies guest winner was Margaret Kalekye (31) while the two nines winners were Dominic Kabiru (22) and Jimmy  Kamau (17).

At Thika, Fr. Joseph Kirimi combined 23 and 21 for 44 points to win the annual Gladys and Charles Kigwe Memorial Golf tournament. He won by four points from Philip Wainaina on 40 while P.N.Gaitara (39) was third. In the ladies section, Margaret Kariuki carded 21 and 18 for 39 points, four better than Florence Githiori 35.

At Muthaiga, Simon Njuguna posted  42 points to win JCB Ganatra Plant and Equipment Golf Day ahead of Jimmy Gachoka (40) and John Gitonga (38). The ladies top prize went to Nancy Ndung’u (35), while Zubain Khan (35) took junior title. Gachara Nganga and Selest Kilinda won the first and second nine on 22 points each.
