Pros to battle in KQ Golf Safari Series at Windsor Club

Action among Kenya’s professional golfers shifts from Karen to Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club course from today as the Kenya Airways Golf Safari Series takes centre stage.

Although the KQ Golf series grand finale is planned for next weekend, the pros decided to play their three rounds this weekend since they will shift to Muthaiga for the 2015 Jamii Telkom next week.

At least 36 of them are drawn at Windsor where they will be joining Kenya’s top amateurs who are battling it out for this year’s Windsor Classic, a Kenya Golf Union Golfer of The Year event. Leading the professionals will be Muthaiga’s Nicholas Rokoine who on Wednesday completed an impressive nine under par 207 to win the Barclays Bank Golf Circuit pro event at Karen.

Rokoine also won the 2012 KQ grand finale at Windsor. He is currently in great shape and set for the Kenya Open next week. Taking on him at Windsor will be Mumias golfer Dismas Indiza, Nakuru’s Richard Ainley, Railway’s Njuguna Ngugi, Ken Abuto and Greg Snow from Royal and Muthaiga’s Anil Shah.

All of them featured in the money list at Karen and depending on whether they can transfer the Karen form to Windsor, Rokoine will be in for a serious challenge. At stake At for the pros is Sh800,000 to be shared among the top 12 pros who will make the cut after Saturday’s round.

In the Windsor Classic, those chasing Goty points include national team players currently preparing for the Africa Zone Six in Uganda and April.

Leading them will be Muthaiga’s Bhavnish Chandaria who the last Goty event, the Muthaiga Open. Others drawn are Matchplay champion Boniface Kosgey, Robinson Owiti and Nelson Simwa from Vet Lab and Kericho’s William Odera and Kenneth Bollo from Royal.

At Ruiru Sports Club, outgoing chairman Ndungu Mwaura will host the 2014 Chairman’s prize sponsored by Kenya Commercial Bank and where a field of 170 players are drawn.

Besides home players, the event has attracted players from Thika, Kiambu, Kenya Air Force, Machakos, and a number of clubs in Nairobi.

Among the locals to watch will be players like Fr. Wilfred Mwaura, Raphael Mwaura, Peter Mburu and Harun Gicho who are all in good form. The ladies section will be led by outgoing Lady Captain Susan Kanyora, handicap nine Lucy Njuguna, and in-coming Lady Captain Irene Wamoro.
