Kenya's amateurs leave for Uganda Open

  • Leading the group of six is Royal Nairobi’s Kenneth Bollo who won the Kabete Open at the weekend. The rest of the players are Jeff Kubwa (Muthaiga), Alfred Nandwa (Railway), Dennis Saikwa (Royal), Paul Muchangi (Limuru) and Vet Lab Sports Club’s Edwin Mudanyi.
  • The Uganda Open features various categories, among them that of ladies, juniors and the professionals whose event comes last.

Six of the country’s leading amateur golfers left on Monday night for Kampala, ready for this year’s Uganda Open Golf Championship which gets under way on Thursday.

Leading the group of six is Royal Nairobi’s Kenneth Bollo who won the Kabete Open at the weekend. The rest of the players are Jeff Kubwa (Muthaiga), Alfred Nandwa (Railway), Dennis Saikwa (Royal), Paul Muchangi (Limuru) and Vet Lab Sports Club’s Edwin Mudanyi.

“We want to leave early so that we have two days of preparation,’’ said Bollo.

“We stand a good chance of winning, given the way we have been playing, particularly me and Nandwa.’’ added Bollo.

The Uganda Open features various categories, among them that of ladies, juniors and the professionals whose event comes last.

Meanwhile, during the weekend’s 54-hole “Bull In Season" Macharia Irungu carded a 54-hole total of 104 points made up of 31, 35 and 38 to win the “Bull In Season’’ golf tournament.

Irungu beat David Ombisi by four points while P.Njunge and Paul Richu were third and fourth on 99 and 98 points respectively. The guest winner was W. Brown with 101 points.
