Kenyan golfers struggle at Harare Pilsener event

All the three Kenyan professionals were well below the cut, half way the second round of the 2014 Golden Pilsener Zimbabwe Open at the par 72 Royal Harare Golf Club in Harare Zimbabwe on Friday.

Leading Kenyan pro Dismas Indiza hit a string of bogeys with only three birdies made for a second round three over par 75 and a two rounds total of two over par 146.

He bogeyed the first, fourth, eighth and ninth in the front nine and 10th and 11th at the back nine. He had started well firing one under par 71 in the opening round and needed at least two under in the second round to make the money list.

His compatriot Njuguna Ngugi birdied the eighth and 10th against bogeys over the second and 11th for level par 72, having carded 75 in the opening round.

Stefan Andersen had the best round of 71, an improvement that came rather late as his two rounds total of 149 left him in 116th place.

South African Jean Hugo, who is at the top of the leader board, was still firing with a 10 under par at hole 12th as defending champion Jake Roos, who is also the Barclays Kenya Open champion, was 28th with four under par at the 15th hole.

Meanwhile, the new Thika Greens Golf Resort will on Saturday host over 200 golfers during the inauguration of the second nine which will make it a complete 18-hole course.

Today’s event, sponsored by Thika Greens and radio personality Maina Kageni, has attracted players from various clubs.

And on Sunday, Nakuru Golf Club will host the fourth leg of the All Africa Challenge Trophy ladies championship fund raising series.

The event is sponsored by Nakuru’s Hotel Water Buck who are also sponsoring the Nakuru Golf Club lady captain’s (Nancy Muhia) Prize Saturday.

Elsewhere, the first leg of the 2014 Crown Paints Crown Teflon Four Ball Better Ball series is set for Kiambu this weekend.

And in Machakos, action resumes after a month with APA Insurance event.
