Robert Kibet wins NMG golf at Machakos

  • There was a stiff competition among the Nation Media Group staff where NMG Human Resources Director David Kiambi emerged top with 36 points, winning by three points from Daniel Musembi and four from yours truly.
  • Fred Kilonzi and John Maingi won the nines with 21 and 23 points respectively while Jennifer Mangu won the longest drive contest for the ladies and the men’s prize going to Jackson Ndunda. Mutua Kitulu won the nearest to pin prize.

On form Robert Kibet from Kenya Air Force Golf Club at the weekend claimed top prize during the sixth leg of this year’s Nation Golf Circuit at the nine-hole Machakos Golf Club course.

The handicap 26 golfer carded a combination of 21 and 22 for a total of 43 points to beat a field of 126 golfers.

“I have been putting alot of hours in practise and it paid off here today.  I am happy for winning here in Machakos,” said Kibet who won by two points from second placed Steve Makau on 19 and 22 and Timothy Ruiru (21, 20) both past Machakos captains.

In fourth place was Cleophas Makau on 39 points while the ladies first prize went to Jennifer Mangu on 30 points. G.M. Wainaina posted 37 points to beat M. Nderi on countback in the guests’ category with Cyllus Onyango third on 36 points.

The seventh and final leg of the NMG sponsored events will take place on October 11 at Royal Nairobi where the local professionals will also be in action.

At Nyanza Golf Club, playing off handicap 23,  Evans Manono posted an impressive 39 stableford points to win the fourth round of Safaricom Business Challenge Golf tournament. Manono posted 16 points on the front nine and a fine 23 points at the back nine.

“I have only played golf for the last seven months and it feels good winning this tournament. I hope to follow suit in the remaining tour series,” Manono said. In second place was George Adongo who carded 37 stableford points to beat Ken Amalemba on countback.
