The team of Kisii’s leading golfer and former captain Zack Bichage put up a brave fight despite the tough condition of the rain-soaked par 70 Kisii Sports Club course to clinch the team title during the Dasani Golf Gala series qualifying round on Sunday.

The four Zack Bichage, his brother Gabriel Bichage, Charles Williams and Dennis Aburi posted a higher score of 114 points, so far the highest in the series, to clinch the only slot available to the club in the grand finale set for Muthaiga Golf Club on October 22.

“ I did not play well myself, but I made sure that my team mates are on the right track. I will be an asset at Muthaiga because I have played there before and who knows, I may put the best performance there’’ said Bichage who was the captain of the team.

Dennis Aburi fired the leading score of 42 points made up of 19 and 23 while Charles Williams contributed 20 and 17 for 37 with Gabriel Bichage returning 35 while the team leader Zack Bichage made 28.

Taking the individual title with an impressive 42 points was John Momanyi who beat Dennis Aburi on countback while Henry Kiyaka was third on 38 points.

The first and second nine winners were Charles Williams and Jeneby Onyambu with 20 points each while Moses Ondaba was the best guest with 14 points.

This was the first ever national qualifying event to be held at Kisii Sports Club and club trustee Peter Omboga who represented the club chairman thanked Dasani through Kisii Bottlers for having decided to give Kisii the opportunity to host its own qualifying round as opposed to travelling to Nyanza for the regional qualifier.

“We real appreciate for this honour. We are working hard to put our course in good condition so that we are able to host other events’’ said Omboga.
