Josiah Kogo floors Kowiti to win Chairman’s prize at Royal

  • Mombasa Golf Club captain Allan Dainty took the second round on 35 points and the third round went to Railway’s Simeon Onyango, who carded 30 points.

One of the leading golfers at Royal Nairobi Golf Club, Josiah Kogo, at the weekend completed a two-rounds total of 75 points, to claim the 2014 Chairman’s (Odongo Mark Okeyo) Prize.

The handicap five Kogo, who had posted 37 points during the first round of the Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB)-sponsored tournament, carded an impressive 38 points in the closing round despite the wet condition of the par 72 course.

“The course was playing long due to the on going rains so for one to get onto the greens on regulation you had to real carry the ball,” said Kogo, who made only two birdies against four bogeys.

He won by two points from Linus Kowiti and Jackson Katitu who took the second and third prizes respectively.

Finishing fourth on 72 after a countback with Shandy Marwa, was Abed Malik. As predicted, Royal’s top-ranked player, Bo Ciera carded, five over par 149 (73, 76) to take the gross title.

In the ladies’ section, Elizabeth Ilako returned 34 points to win the first round prize as Fridah Shiroya on 35 won the second while the third round winner was Zinat Miwa on 34 points.

Paul Ichangi, on 36 points, won the past chairmen’s first round while Francis Okwara on 35 was the round two winner. And taking the round three was Barth Ragalo on 35 points.

ONYANGO CARDED 30 POINTS

The first round guest winner was former Railway lady captain Lydia Otieno, who posted the tournament’s highest score of 40 points, while Mombasa Golf Club captain Allan Dainty took the second round on 35 points and the third round went to Railway’s Simeon Onyango, who carded 30 points.

The KCB staff winner in two rounds was Tim Ruhiu on 71, one better than M. Kamatu. Oki Amayo was the junior winner in the round one with 25 points and winning round two was Njogu Kungu on 26 points. 

A total of 150 players participated in the event, which completed the week-long activities of the chairman’s prize, which started with a medical check up for all the caddies and their families on Monday, followed by the two-day pro event.
