Lady Legends tees off at Muthaiga

What you need to know:

  • There will be a blend of the current crop of national team players and veterans among the 100 drawn for the championship.
  • Christina Andersen, Naomi Wafula and Mercy Nyanchama will face off with the legendary Rose Naliaka, who is now a professional, Mary Karano, Florence Maina, Jane Njoroge, Wanjiru Karume as well as Sarah Ainley among others.
  • Men’s national team players Alfred Nandwa, Bo Siera, Jeff Kubwa, Dennis Saikwa and Edwin Mudanyi will participate as special guests in the ladies’ tournament.

A field of top players are set to tackle the par 71 Muthaiga Golf Club course when the inaugural National Lady Golf Legends tournament gets under way on Friday.

There will be a blend of the current crop of national team players and veterans among the 100 drawn for the championship.

Christina Andersen, Naomi Wafula and Mercy Nyanchama will face off with the legendary Rose Naliaka, who is now a professional, Mary Karano, Florence Maina, Jane Njoroge, Wanjiru Karume as well as Sarah Ainley among others.

Men’s national team players Alfred Nandwa, Bo Siera, Jeff Kubwa, Dennis Saikwa and Edwin Mudanyi will participate as special guests in the ladies’ tournament.

“It’s a perfect field. We are happy about the entry of the ladies and the special guests,’’ said Agnes Wanjiru, one of the event organisers, who will also be in action.

WEEKEND GOLF TOURNAMENTS

Elsewhere at the Karen Country Club, over 200 players are drawn for the Kenya Power Corporate Golf Tournament on Friday.

In Kiambu, the club’s vice-chairman Njeru Njagi is sponsoring the Club-Nite event.

A total of 12 events are lined-up this weekend at various clubs across the country.

They include the Chairman’s Prize at Nyali Golf and Country Club, which has attracted over 100 players.

The Chairman’s Prize at Nyali coincides with the club’s annual general meeting, which was due to be held last evening.

At Machakos, General Motors will be sponsoring the Lady Captain’s Prize, with Vet Lab, Thika and Ruiru  hosting the Ladies Medal championships.
