  • On the poor performance by his colleagues, Indiza said he does not blame them.
  • This was Omondi’s first time to make cut in the open

Kenya’s only hope in this year’s Barclays Kenya Open Dismas Indiza put himself in an attacking position with a third round two under par to close the day on eight under par 208 going into Sunday’s final round at the par-72 Karen Country Club course.

And Indiza, who said he prefers to play ahead of the leaders as opposed to be in the leading group, started the day with a bogey at the par four-first which he usually drive on, but that did not bother him that much as he picked up a birdie soon after to remain six under until at the 13th where he dropped a shot, having birdied the 12th.

“The pin positions today were all hidden hence difficult to attack, but all the same the course is in great shape,’’ said Indiza who said he would like to play more events in the Challenge Tour if he wins on Sunday, otherwise he will be heading to Zambia for the Zambia Sugar tournament at Lusaka Golf Club and the Zambia Open in the Copperbelt.

On the poor performance by his colleagues, Indiza said he does not blame them.

“Golf is a difficult game to predict, sometimes when you want to play well, you lose focus and nothing works well for you,’’ he told Sunday Nation Sport.

MOVED UP

Whilst Indiza moved up, his colleague Brian Njoroge hit a double bogey at the par four-sixth, dropped another shot at the par three seventh, recovered one at the 12th but again dropped a shot at the 15th for two over par 74 to drop to level par total of 216.

The day was even worse for the third local player Mathew Omondi who hit two double bogeys and single bogeys with only a birdie in each nine for eight over par 80 that saw him drop to six over par total.

He still however has Sunday’s round to try and recover some shots in order to win some good amount of money.

This was Omondi’s first time to make cut in the open which saw a total of 27 professionals and a total of six amateurs starting in this year’s championship though only the three Indiza, Njoroge and Omondi made the two under par second round cut.
