Luijk’s team claims Millar title in Karen

  • The handicap 10 Ciano posted a total of 38 points during Friday’s grand finale at Karen Country Club where Onyango posted 18 points in each half for 36 points.
  • The two will now play in the Sanlam Cancer Challenge at the Sun City Golf Resort from October 20 to 21 where they will join other golfers in raising funds for the fight against cancer.

The home team of lady captain Christa Van Luijk, Mary Russell, Shirley Scroggie and Jinah Sun posted a three total of 187 points to claim the annual Nancy Millar trophy at the par 72 Karen Country Club course at the weekend.

They posted 61 points in the first round, 64 in the second and 62 in the closing round. In second place was the team of Margaret Thande (Karen), Rosemary Njogu, June Waweru and Jackie Hinga all from Vet Lab with 184 points.

In third place was another Karen team of Sally Mitchelmore, Sally Davey, Hilary Scott and Annie Markham with 181points. Rina Hanrahan, Sue Carmichael, Ashley Awuor and Mary Monari were fourth with 180 and completing the main prize list was the team of Andrea Nyaga, Ariane Recizac, Rina Marie Jacobs and Shella Bhanji on 177  points.

In the Pan Africa Life Challenge series grand finale, Muthaiga Golf Club’s Jonathan Ciano and Nyanza Golf Club’s vice captain Sam Onyango booked their tickets to this year’s Sanlam Cancer Challenge at the Sun City Golf Resort in South Africa.

Tom Gitogo carded 31 points to win the staff prize while P. Chetty on 36 was the men winner, ahead of Linus Kowiti on 35.

At Nyali, Anthony Polo carded 40 points to win the Kenya Forest Services Golf event where the men winner was Aly Jamal on 37 points after a county back with Symon Wambugu. Club chairman Christine Ockotch post 39 points to win by a point from Jane Mburu on 38 while Matthew Wahome  was the best junior on 37 points.
