A big field of 168 golfers drawn from various clubs in the country will be converging at the par 72 Machakos Golf Club course this weekend for the 2015 Kecoso (Kenya Communications Sports Organisation) tournament.

This is the largest field the nine-hole Machakos has hosted this year. Teeing off for those drawn in the morning will start at 6am.

Club captain Dee Kivuva said he had drawn most of the locals early in the morning so that they give room to those coming from outside Machakos.

“We will try and manage the field in the best possible way so that each player manages to finish his 18 holes,’’ said Kivuva.

Besides Nairobi-based golfers, the event, sponsored by Communications Authority of Kenya (CA), has also attracted players from as far as away as Nyali in Mombasa, who will be led by the long-hitting Charles Odoo.

Hunting for the overall title among the leading Machakos golfers will be James Ndunda, Tim Ruhiu, club chairman Collins Kaloki, captain Kivuva, Jackson Nzioki, Fred Kilonzi, Munyao Kamba and John Maingi.

Back in Nairobi, Karen Country Club will Friday afternoon host the Rusinga Schools 40th Anniversary tournament which has also attracted a big field.

The event has received support from various corporate organizations as well as individual golfers.
