One of the Kenyan pros in this year’s Open, David Odhiambo from Nyanza Sports Club on Wednesday received a Sh250,000 boost from Sendy-On-Demand Delivery Application, an online service delivery company.

The sponsorship, courtesy of Sendy-On-Demand Delivery Application chairman Tom Macakiage - himself a golfer and a member of Nyanza Sports Club - will include the Open entry fee, caddie fees, transport, accommodation, golf balls among other equipment.

Macakiage has over the years supported Odhiambo to play in international events.

Macakiage, who finished third in the first Pro-Am event with Zimbabwean pro Mark Williams on Tuesday at Muthaiga with a score of 45 points, pledged to give Odhiambo more support if he makes the cut in the Kenya Open on Friday.

Odhiambo played in the Open first as an amateur from 2002 to 2006 and as a pro from 2007 to date, but has made the cut only three times.

Odhiambo has won a number of pro events in the East Africa regions including the Burundi Open (twice), Kinyara Open and Pepsi tournament in Uganda, Osho Chemical, KCB Pro-Am Tour, Kenya Airways, and the 2016 Captain’s Prize pro event at Muthaiga.

“I have been practicing for this year’s Open particularly in the short game and I am really looking forward,” he said.

He thanked Macakiage for his continued support. “For one to play well in the Open, you must ensure that you have taken care of such things like entry and caddie fees and that you have transport to and from the venue of the event,” said Odhiambo, who will be teeing off at 1pm along with Germany’s Dominic Foos and France’s Julien Guerrier in Thursday’s first round.
