Home player Nanji tees to victory in fourth leg of KFS series at Sigona Club

Imran Nanji, a  handicap golfer at Sigona, emerged overall winner of the fourth leg of the Kenya Forest Service golf series at Sigona Golf Club. 

The avid conservationist scored 21 points in the first nine and 19 in the second for a total of 40 points. He was pleased with his win and attributed it to a great four-ball team and a great course which favoured his game.

Ketul Tanna was the men’s winner with 39 points.

Losing on count back to Ketul to emerge men’s runners-up was Sujan Shah who had  scored 39 points while Pradip Shah who lost on count back to Sujan, was second runners-up also with 39 points.

LADIES PRIZE

The first nine prize went to George Ndungu with 21 points while the second nine winner was David D’Souza (21). Speaking on behalf of the director of the Kenya Forest Service at the prize-giving ceremony, Communication Officer Leakey Sonkoyo urged golfers to plant as many trees as possible to enable the country achieve a 10 per cent  tree cover.

The next leg is set for  September 19 at Nyali Golf and Country Club.

At Muthaiga, handicap 10 Anthony Ngeera combined 18 and 22 points to win the Stanlib golf tournament with 42 points.

Taking the men’s first prize was Gachara Nganga with 39 points, beating Ian Maina by two points as S. Devgun 36 points won the ladies prize after beating Nancy Ndungu on countback. Olive Njagi on 32 was third. Gurdit Bhachu won the junior prize on 36, while Kilu Shah and Joseph Iracha claimed the two nines with 21 points each.

At Thika Sports Club, A. Macharia posted 41 points made up of 17 and an impressive 24 points to win the Friends of Captain tournament ahead of D.M. Karuma on 39 while Sudhir Shah, on 38, was third.

In the ladies’ category, section, Rose Kangethe posted 36 points to win by a point from Margaret Waweru. Winning the first prize among the guests was F. Goco with 31 points. Handicap five Peter Nganga won the gross om 31 points and Ashav Shah was the best junior with 34 points. The nines went to J.M. Kanyi and SG. Maitho on 21 points each.

At Kakamega, Innocent Ondiek carded 42 points to win overall title of the Western region inter-club championship. Kitale’s Hannah Runtabar was second on 37, beating Nandi’s Robert Kasi on countback.

Kakamega which had entered eight players amassed 237 points followed by Mumias (192), Kisii (182) and Kitale (180). Nyanza managed 121 points.

Kenya Golf Union vice chairman Muchau Githiaka who launched the new series said it would involve four regions competition for the KGU trophy. He said programmes for other regions would be released soon.
