Nanyuki to host year's first NMG golf challenge

Nanyuki Sports Club will host the first NMG golf challenge of the year this weekend.

Nanyuki Sports Club’s nine-hole course will this weekend host the first tournament in the 2016 Nation Media Group sponsored golf challenge.

A field of 128 players including 28 guests from Limuru, Thika, Njoro, Karen, Muthaiga and Royal Nairobi clubs, as well as players from the Mount Kenya regional clubs of Nyahururu, Nyeri and host Nanyuki are drawn to tackle the short but challenging Nanyuki course.

At stake will be a number of fabulous prizes in addition for a chance to play in the Golf Challenge grand finale at Limuru towards the end of the year for the top five players from the region.

Also drawn are a number of NMG staff, who include group chairman Wilfred Kiboro, human resources director David Kiambi and company secretary James Kinyua among others.

Drawn from Nyeri are George Kiguta, who won a four-way count-back with 39 points to win last weekend’s Dedan Kimathi University charity event, the club’s leading golfer Stella Mwangi, long hitting Dan Weru and Joshua Kinoti.

Veteran Major-General Peter Waweru will lead the home challenge.

Teeing off is set for 8am in a continuous draw where the format will be stableford off full handicap.

CHARITY EVENTS

Like last year, besides the golf events, the Nation Media Group will be supporting a number of charity events in every region the Nation Golf Challenge will be hosted as part of its corporate social responsibility.

On Friday afternoon, NMG will donate various items worth Sh150,000 to St Stevens Children’s Home in Timau.

Items to be donated include blankets, mattresses, bed sheets, towels and sanitary towels.
