Kenya’s top female golfer Naomi Wafula is set to participate in the US Kids Golf Teen World Championship at the Pinehurst in North Carolina.

The event, which attracts over 500 participants from across the United States and more than 30 countries in the world, takes place the weekend before the World Golf Championship.

The US Kids Golf Teen World Championship is open to both boys and girls aged between 13 and 18. It is a three-day tournament where kids tee up on some of the best and most revered golf courses in the US.

Participants qualify for the event through local tours, as well as regional championships in their respective regions. It will take place between July 24 to 26.

The Teen World Cup is a special opportunity for boys and girls in each age group to play in a MatchPlay competition. The top four finishing boys and top two finishing girls from the United States will face off against the top four finishing boys and the top two finishing girls from International countries.

Wafula earned her to the Teen World Championship due to her sterling performance both local and the African golf scene over the past one year where she not only clinched the ladies championship in the country but also led the national ladies team to capture the Gilberson and Page Trophy held in Kenya last year, and helped Kenya finish in a decent position in the All Africa Challenge Trophy at Muthaiga Golf Club in last month.

The 16-year-old Wafula is a member of the Rose Naliaka Golf Academy at the Golf Park.
