‘Nation Challenge’ moves to Nyanza

The 2016 Nation Media Group-sponsored Golf Challenge enters its fourth leg this weekend at the Lake Side Nyanza Golf Club’s par 70 course. A field of 96 players was drawn in the event open to players from Nyanza, Kakamega, Mumias, Kisii and Kericho.

Club captain, Evance Manono, who says the course is in an excellent condition, is still accepting post entries. At stake will be more than 10 prizes and lots of entertainment in the evening.

NMG has once again teamed up with other corporate organisations such The Luxury Networkk, Africabs Platinum and Kenya Breweries Limited which will provide drinks during the prize giving and dinner.

The format, as usual, will be stableford off full handicap and among the locals drawn include single figure handicap golfer Noah Winja, a very consistent player who has won many golf series in the country.

The list also includes Maurice Oduor, Manono, and Kisii Sports Club’s Charles Aburi among many other leading golfers from the region. Also drawn are guests who include Kenya Golf Union (KGU) vice chairman Richard Wanjalla, and former Machakos Golf Club captain Dee Kivuva.

It’s a busy weekend for NMG in the Nyanza/Western region as besides the golf event, there will be several CSR activities that a Boba Boda race at Moi Stadium Kisumu whose aim is to educate riders on road safety.

Also on Friday will be a Vendors Sports Day and Kisumu Polytechnic. NMG will donate text books worth Sh200,000 to Burundu Primay School in Malava, Kakamega County while in the evening NMG will launch the Daily Nation Nyanza edition at Accacia Premier Hotel to be presided by senior NMG executives.

Elsewhere, the Kenya Air Force Golf Club course which has not been active lately, will host the fourth leg of the Kenya Forest Service Golf series where a total of 120 players drawn from various clubs in Nairobi, Thika, Ruiru, Limuru and Machakos will be battling it out.

Dubbed the "greening golf’" the event, which last year attracted a big support, will be used by KFS to promote tree planting by golfers.

KFS director Emilio Mugo says the series has seen hundreds of thousands of trees planted at various clubs in the country.

The Kenya Air Force Golf course at Eastleigh’s Moi Air Base is one course that requires lots of trees in order to protect the fairways from frequent drying up.
