Nation Golf Challenge set for Nyali at the weekend

What you need to know:

  • Various corporate organisations will team up with NMG in the golf challenge as co-sponsors this weekend.
  • On Friday, NMG will donate items to the Port Reitz Christian Foundation for the physically handicapped.
  • The Nation will also host a Vendors’ Sports Day at KPA Mbaraki Sports Club, which will be followed by a dinner in the evening.
  • The Nyali tournament gets underway 7am with the afternoon tee off set for 12.10pm.

This year’s Nation Media Group’s Golf Challenge heads down to the Coast for the third leg of the 2016 series at Nyali Golf and Country Club in Mombasa.

A field of 134 players including guests from Ruiru, Thika, Njoro, Railways, Karen, Sigona, Limuru, Nakuru and Royal Nairobi as well as Nation Media Group (NMG) staff led by Chairman Wilfred Kiboro and Chief Executive Officer Joe Muganda will participate.

Save for one occasion, Nyali no doubt one of the most challenging golf courses in the country, has been hosting the Nation series since 1996. A lot of prizes will be at stake for the competitors.

Various corporate organisations will team up with NMG in the golf challenge as co-sponsors this weekend.

They include The Luxury Network, English Point Marina and Africabs Platinum. There will be raffle gifts from Africabs and English Point Marina.

Besides the golf tournament, NMG also supports various social activities in Mombasa. This has been the case at all its events over the past three years.

On Friday, NMG will donate items to the Port Reitz Christian Foundation for the physically handicapped. The Nation will also host a Vendors’ Sports Day at KPA Mbaraki Sports Club, which will be followed by a dinner in the evening.

Club captain Kelli Muindi said the course is in perfect condition and the weather is currently fine, except for a bit of wind in the afternoon.

“Our is course is a PGA material and we endeavour to keep it in an excellent condition throughout the year. Those coming from up-country will certainly enjoy a fine round of golf’’ said Muindi who is among the club’s leading golfers of the “elite squad’’ who will be vying for the overall prize.

There will be prizes for juniors and seniors and among the seniors vying for their prize will be veteran Sal Davis, Patrick Munyao, Clive Barnsley, and John Riley.

However, joining the captain among the “elite squad’’ will be past captain/chairman Gurbux Singh, Eric Nyongesa, Alan Dainty, Mathew Githinji, George Munyao, William Kaguta, Lumatete Muchai and Joseph Oluoch among others.
