‘Nation’ circuit enters leg three at Nyali

Action at the coast now shifts to Nyali Golf and Country Club at the mainland north for the third leg of the 2015 Nation Media Group’s Golf Circuit.
The Coast Open last weekend was at the front course (Mombasa Golf Club) where scratch golfer Mathew Wahome retained the Barry Cup with an impressive aggregate of two over par.
The par 71 Nyali course, one of the most challenging courses in the country, will host the Nation event.
A field of 148 golfers including guests from various clubs in Nairobi, and Machakos and as far away as Eldoret, Nakuru, and Thika as well as staff of the Nation Media Group were drawn to vie for a number of prizes.
The field does not, however, include the Coast Open champion Mathew Wahome, who flew back to Cape Town for his studies. However, India-based Daniel Nduva, who won the Coast Open in 2013, is drawn and will be in the team of Matthew Githinji, Mumo Thyaka and William Kaguta.
Unlike the Coast Open, the Nation Golf Circuit is a Stableford of full handicap that intends to favour those in the middle and high-handicap bracket.
Some of those in this category including the long-hitting Charles Odoo, Martin Wahome and Jimmy Kingori.
Leading the hunt for the ladies prize will be Terry Odoo. Her challengers will be Florence Karimi, Christine Ockotch while Andrew Wahome, the latest in the Martin and Alice Wahome golfing family has been playing well lately and stands a good chance for the junior prize.
Teeing off for those drawn in the morning is set for 7.40am and 12 noon being the first tee off for the afternoon draw.
In addition to the golf event, the Nation Media Group will today donate baby diapers, reading materials and soap to children of the women inmates at Shimo La Tewa Women’s Prisons.
Back in Nairobi, the Ruiru Sports Club will host the Ladies Medal, sponsored by club member William Ikinu.
Over 100 golfers are all set to tackle the tough Ruiru course. At stake will be a number of prizes for both men and the ladies.
At Muthaiga this afternoon, the par 71 course will host the Zabibu Centre golf tournament. This is a charity event in aid of Zabibu Centre situated in Ruiru. It is community-based, non-profit making organisation started in 2005 and caters for children with hearing or visual impairment.
