This year’s Nation Media Group’s Golf Challenge heads down to the Nyali Golf and Country Club at Mombasa’s mainland north for the third leg of this year’s series.

A field of 134 players including guests from Ruiru, Thika, Njoro, Railways, Karen, Sigona, Limuru, Nakuru and Royal Nairobi as well as NMG staff led by group chairman Wilfred Kiboro and CEO Joe Muganda will be in action.

Save for one occasion, the tough Nyali golf course has been hosting the Nation series since 1996.

As usual, an array of prizes will be at stake for club members, guests and staff. This year, NMG is teaming up with various corporate organisations in the golf Challenge as co-sponsors including Luxury Network, English Point Marina and Africabs Platinum.

There will be raffle gifts from Africabs and English Point Marina.

NMG, in keeping with its tradition of the past few years, is also supporting various social activities in Mombasa.

The regional media giant will donate various items to the Port Reitz Christian Foundation for the physically handicapped.

The company will also host a Vendors Sports Day at KPA Mbaraki Sports Club which will be followed by a dinner in the evening.

Back at Nyali, the tournament gets underway 7am with the afternoon tee off set for 12.10pm.

Club captain Kelli Muindi said the course was in perfect condition and the weather was currently fine save for a bit of wind in the afternoon.

“Our course is a PGA material and we endeavour to keep it in excellent condition throughout the year. Those coming from up-country will certainly enjoy a fine round of golf,’’ said Muindi, who is among the club’s leading golfers of the “elite squad’’ who will be vying for the overall prize.

There will be prizes for juniors and seniors and among the seniors vying for their prize will be veteran Sal Davis, Patrick Munyao, Clive Barnsley, and John Riley.

However, joining the captain among the “elite squad’’ will be past captain/chairman Gurbux Singh, Eric Nyongesa, Alan Dainty, Mathew Githinji, George Munyao, William Kaguta, Lumatete Muchai and Joseph Oluoch among others.
