Nations arrive for Africa Golf Team Championships at Limuru

  • Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Tunisia, defending champions South Africa, host Kenya arrived Saturday for the event.

At least eight teams out of the expected 15, had by Saturday afternoon arrived at Limuru Country Club, the venue of the 2015 Africa Amateur Golf Team Championship and were registering ahead of today’s official opening.

The teams which arrived on Saturday were Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Tunisia, defending champions South Africa, host Kenya and Zone Six and East Africa golf Champions Uganda whose team was the first to arrive on Wednesday. More teams were due last night and early this morning for registration and official practising round which gets under way from 8am.

Those which were due in last night are Zambia, Mauritius, Nigeria, Rwanda, Seychelles, Egypt and Cote D’Ivoire. A total of 15 countries will be battling it out for the African Continent’s most prestigious amateur team strokeplay golf championship being held in Kenya for the first time since the event started in 2001. Ghana and Ethiopia withdrew from the championship at the last minute.

Kenya’s team of John Karichu, John Kariuki, Paul Muchangi all from Limuru, Royal Nairobi’s Bo Ciera and Jay Sandhu had a round of practise on Tuesday at Muthaiga before moving back to Limuru on Thursday.

All the teams will be accommodated at the Brackenhurst centre in Tigoni just a few kilometres away from the event venue.
