Nelson Simwa claims Limuru Open

Vet Lab Sports Club’s Nelson Simwa is the winner of Limuru Open golf tournament.

Simwa, who lost to the Kenya Amateur Matchplay title three weeks ago, bounced back to the top after beating home player John Karichu by a shot to take top honours at Limuru Country Club on Sunday.

Simwa shot one under par 70 in each of the three rounds for a total of 210 for the victory.

Karichu took an early lead with an impressive three under par 68 in the first round. He however carded two over 73 in the second round. He shot one under par 70 in the final round but it was too little too late.

John Kariuki finished third on 216 made up of 73, 72 and 71 while former national team captain Francis Kimani was fourth with 217.

Njoro’s Alfred Nandwa was fifth after completing three rounds of 222 gross.

The event attracted 64 players and the next tournament in the 18-events Golfer Of The Year series will be the Coast Open from July 26.
