  • During the strokeplay event, Lanre Tanimowo carded nett 68 to take the overall title beating a field of 160 players.

Action in the Kenya Airways Golf Safari Series switches to the lake-side Nyanza Golf Club course in Kisumu for the local scene and IBB Golf Club in Abuja, Nigeria on the international level this weekend.

Over 100 golfers are listed to play at the par 70 Nyanza Golf Club course including golfers from Kakamega, Mumias, Kisii, Kericho and hosts Nyanza. Leading the hunt for the two return tickets to any Africa destination will be Kenya Golf Trophy champion Noah Winja who has qualified in very many series before.

Others in the line-up include Nyanza’s leading amateur Peter Owino, Ben Dawa, Ken Nyangaga, Evans Manono, Rana Sultan, and Ken Amalemba.

Those who will be vying for the ladies prize include Elizabeth Akinyi who posted 42 points recently to win the Kenya Tourism Board series.

Only three, the overall winner, men and lady winners will scoop return tickets and also qualify to play in the grand finale scheduled for March 27 next year at Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club.

The course at Nyanza is a bit dry, hence will be playing short, though as usual, it will be the tricky greens which may be the deciding factor.

Away in Abuja Nigeria, the par 72 IBB International Golf and Country Club course will also pick up three players to travel to Kenya for the grand finale. Last weekend Ikoyi Golf Club in Lagos hosted the first of the two Nigeria legs.

JOINED LIMURU IN THE 1970s

During the strokeplay event, Lanre Tanimowo carded nett 68 to take the overall title beating a field of 160 players. Nigeria is the only country on the 2014/2015 circuit hosting two events. All in all, Ikoyi Golf Club in Lagos was a beehive of activity hosting more than 160 golfers.

At the Limuru Country Club, chairman Yasin Awale will host over 200 players during his Chairman’s Prize.

Awale, one of the most respected and feted in the history of Golf leadership in Kenya, favourably referred to by various names, notably the “Chief Warrior,” is celebrating the end of his term as chairman.

He joined Limuru as a junior member in the 1970s. He has been in the committee of the club since 1998 serving in different capacities including that of captain, vice chairman and finally chairman.
