Nyanza’s Ojwang' wins Nation Golf Challenge

Despite scratching two holes at the back nine, the towering Lusi Ojwang still went on to beat a field of 82 players at the tough Nyanza Golf Club’s par 70 course to clinch the overall prize in the fourth leg of the 2016 Nation Media Group’s (NMG) Golf Challenge.

Ojwang posted nine over par in the opening nine for an impressive 23 points, though a couple of double-bogeys and the two scratches at the 13th and 17th saw him post 16 points at the back nine for a of 39 points. He beat Dilu Patel by one point.

Nyanza Lady captain Martha Okello posted 36 points to clinch the ladies prize. Leading the NMG invited guests was Cyllus Onyango, who carded 19 and 20 for 39 points.

Speaking during the prize giving ceremony NMG Editor in Chief Tom Mshindi said the firm values the support from the residents of the region.

Kisumu Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga said the club appreciates the sponsorship from NMG.

Group. “We hope Nation will continue partnering with Nyanza Club so that the club may be able to realise its goals’’ said Odinga who urged the club officials to sort out the differences in an orderly manner so that the club membership may remain united.

Besides the Nation Media Group, the event was also supported by Africabs, Luxury Network and East Africa Breweries.

The fifth leg will take place at Kitale Golf Club September 10 and will be open to Eldoret, Nandi Bears and hosts Kitale Golf Club.
