Red-hot Manono tees to victory on Kisumu course

  • Manono who started playing golf last November, posted his maiden victory during the Standard County editions on July 5 where he posted so far his best score of 42 points.
  • During the weekend’s ABC Bank which attracted a field of 54 players, Manono beat Daniel Tanui of Mumias and Nyanza Golf Club chairman Dan Ajulu by one point.

On-form Evans Manono, who has been on tremendous form since July, over the weekend posted 38 points at the par-70 Nyanza Golf Club course Kisumu to win the ABC Bank golf tournament.

Then playing off handicap 22, Manono made a slow start carding 16 points after scratching the second hole which was followed by a triple bogey at third and a double at the fourth.

“I real did not give myself a chance to win the event, let alone a prize but my team-mates somehow encouraged’’ said Manono who parred both par fives at the back nine as well as the 16th and 18 for 23 for a total of 39 points,  to claim his sixth victory since July.

SECOND VICTORY

He claimed his second victory on July 26 during the Commercial Bank of Africa(CBA) with 40 points before teaming up with Joseph Atito to qualify for the Crown Paints four ball better ball series with 46 points.

There after Manono won the subsidiary of the Nyanza Open(Hippo Pot) with 39 points. Early this month(September 6) Manono was on top against as he clinched the top prize in the Safaricom Business Challenge with 39 points.

Kakamega’s Beatrice Bisonga returned the day’s best score of 40 points to win the ladies top prize as Peter Owino and Sharad Somaia won the first and second nine with 21 and 22 points. Joseph Atito hit a massive 320 yards on the par four-18th to win the longest drive contest as club captain Jazz Sokhi took the nearest to pin prize.

This was the first time ABC Bank was sponsoring a tournament at the club and Group Chief Executive Officer Sridhar Natarajan said ABC will return to Nyanza next year in a big way.

“We have been sponsoring an event at Eldoret over the past few years however courtesy of Nyanza lady captain Ruth Kwasu we were able to come here this year.  We will therefore return next year and in a big way,” said Natarajan.
