Rosemary Obara banks on home advantage to win KCB Tour in Nyanza

One of the leading lady golfers in Nyanza and Western region, Rosemary Obara, over the weekend beat a field of 98 players to clinch the 2014 KCB Golf Tour, third leg overall title at the par 70 Nyanza Golf Club course.

Playing off handicap 17, Obara double-bogeyed three holes and scratched one but two birdies one in each nine saw her finish with 38 points made up of 19 points in each nine, to eventually claim the overall title.

“I played well today and one of the reasons was that not only am I long time customer of KCB but my daughter is currently doing an attachment with KCB. This is therefore a real fitting win for me,’’ said Obara, a medical doctor.

She beat Nyanza’s top ranked amateur Peter Owino on countback as the handicap two Owino posted 21 and 17 to also finish with 38 points.

Prashant Thakrar on 37 points finished second just a point better than D. Achila on 36.

Rael Kurgat from Nandi Bears took the ladies title with a score of 38 points, beating second placed Damaris Omoori from Kisii by a point.

Kericho’s Abu Omollo and Nyanza’s Jiten Pabari won the first and second nine on 20 and 21 points.

Leading the KCB staff was Charles Bii with 31 points.

PROFESSIONALS

Earlier, Thika Sports Club’s Simon Ngige had fired six under par 134 to take the top prize of Sh117,000 in the professional category.

Speaking during the prize giving ceremony presided by club vice captain Sammy Onyango, KCB director Tom Ipomai said the bank group will continue supporting the series.

“We are committed to supporting the development of the game of golf and this is why this year the bank has set aside a total of Sh24m for the series’’ said Ipomai who represented the KCB CEO Joshua Oigara.
