It was the turn of another South African Brandon Stone to lead the field of surviving 64 players in this year’s Barclays Kenya Open after firing a brilliant five under par 67 in Saturday’s third round at Karen Country Club.

Stone now starts Sunday’s final round with a two-shot advantage from, among others, his compatriot and Day Two leader Haydn Porteous.

“I am happy leading by a shot in day three of an event like this, I will take it easy and employ the same game plan tomorrow (today),’’ said Stone who dropped only one shot at the first hole.

He picked up birdies at the second and third and at the 12th, 13th, 15th and 18th for a low back nine 32 and the day’s 67 which saw him jump to the lead with a total of 14 under par 202.

His compatriot Porteous ran into trouble right from the word go though he said he was happy with his level par 72 in the round where he bogeyed the first three holes, and the last one (18th) after sending his driver to the left round.

He had birdied the eighth, 10th, 15th and 17th for a total of 13 under par 203. England’s Sam Walker also shot five under par 67 to tie in third place with Dutch Daan Huizing who fired three under 69 to also close the day on 12 under par 204. Walker shot a bogey-free round that included five birdies as Huizing birdied the second, third, sixth, 13th, 14th and 15th and dropped shots on the first hole and later on at the seventh and eighth and 12th.

LIMA 11TH
Day one leader Jose-Filipe Lima of Portugal birdied the third, 14th, and 15th though a double bogey at the seventh and a single one at the 12th saw him finish on level par 72 to tie on 11th under par 205 with England’s George Woolgar.

Portugal’s Ricardo Gouveia joined the leader board with a 10 under par 206 after a 68, tying with Scotland’s Ross Kellett who eagled the third and birdied three holes to also finish on 10 under par 206.

Kenya’s only hope in this year’s tournament Dismas Indiza put himself in an attacking position with a third round two under par to close the day on eight under par 208 going into Sunday’s final round.
