South Africas Porteous takes lead

South Africa’s Haydn Porteous shot to the top of the leaderboard in the 2015 Barclays Kenya Open at the close of day two Friday at the par-72 Karen Country Club course.

Porteous, who is following the footsteps of his compatriots Jake Roos, Trevor Immelmann and other past South African winners, shot an excellent seven under par 65 yesterday to open a two-shot lead with a two rounds total of 13 under par 131.

And it was a birdie at the par four-first hole which triggered the day’s success despite a single bogey at the second hole. He cancelled the day’s only bogey with a birdie four at the third, picked two more at the seventh and ninth to cross to the back nine with three under.

He birdied the 12th, 13th, 15th, 17th and 18th for a two rounds total of 131, leading overnight leader, Portugal’s Jose Filipe Lima, by two shots. Lima shot three under 69 after finishing the back nine with two back-to-back bogeys. He earlier birdied the second, eighth, 12th, 13th and 15th for a two-rounds total of 133.

France’s Cyril Bounoil, Daan Huizing from the Netherlands and another South African Brandon Stone tied on nine under par 135.

STONE POSTED IMPRESSIVE 66

Five others tied on eight under par 136 making today’s round very competitive. Leading this group was England’s George Woolgar who fired six under par 66 while France’s Victor Riu and Louis De Jager of South Africa brought 67 each, with Finland’s Jaako Makitalo shooting 68.

Royal Nairobi’s Eric Ooko shot two under par 70 to miss the cut by just a shot as Njguna Ngugi posted level par 72 for 144 to miss by two shots. Last year, Indiza and Greg Snow made it to the last two rounds.

“I cant complain. I was going for a lower score in order to try and catch up with the leaders,” Indiza had said.
