St George’s begin title defence

What you need to know:

  • Defending champions Shimba Hills who are in pool ‘B’ alongside St John’s Kaloleni and Murray Girls start their campaign with a match against St John’s at 10.00am.
  • In girls’ hockey, St John’s Kaloleni will take on St Charles Lwanga as they seek to defend the title they won last year.

Defending champions St George’s High School from Kilifi take on Kwale’s Mazeras Boys in the opening match in basketball as the Coast region secondary schools Term One games get underway at different venues in Malindi.

St George’s, who are favourites to retain the basketball title after recruiting heavilly following their fourth-place finish at last year’s national championships, are expected to make light work of Mazeras Boys who are making a comeback at the Coast region games after playing second fiddle to Shimba Hills for close to a decade.

The pool ‘A’ match will be played at Malindi High School.

KENYATTA PLAY LUTSANGANI

The other pool ‘A’ match will see Kenyatta High School take on Lutsangani. Pool ‘B’ which features Ribe Boys, Witu and Mombasa Baptist will play their opening matches later in the afternoon when Ribe Boys will take on Witu Secondary.

Action in pool ‘A’ of girls’ basketball scheduled for this morning will see Ribe square it out with Aga Khan, while Lamu Girls will lock horns with Kaya Tiwi.

Defending champions Shimba Hills who are in pool ‘B’ alongside St John’s Kaloleni and Murray Girls start their campaign with a match against St John’s at 10.00am.

GIRLS HOCKEY MATCHES

In girls’ hockey, St John’s Kaloleni will take on St Charles Lwanga as they seek to defend the title they won last year.

The opening pool ‘B’ match will see Jilore take on Bura Girls.

Boys’ hockey matches will see newcomers KP Senior from Mtwapa tackle Kenyatta High School Mwatate in the opening match of pool ‘A’ while St George’s Kaloleni will battle it out David Ondigis Shimba hills.

Rugby fixtures will see St George’s take on Lamu’s Hongwe in the opening fixture of pool ‘A’ while Khamis High await Kenyatta High School in the other match.

Pool ‘B’ matches will see Malindi High play Shimba Hills in an encounter scheduled for Malindi High.

Other disciplines being played at the Term One games and which will be used to select Coast teams for the national secondary schools championships to be held in Nakuru in April include cross country, decathlon, heptathlon and swimming. The games started yesterday with a clinic for officials who will officiate in the championships.
