Kenya’s team for the Africa Amateur Strokeplay Championship will take part in the annual Mount Kenya Golf tournament at Nyeri Golf Club this weekend. The four players - Edwin Mudanyi of Vet Lab, John Kariuki (Limuru), Kenneth Bollo (Royal) and Alfred Nandwa (Railway) - have been training for the past two weeks under national team coach Brian Njoroge.

They are among a field of 87 star players drawn to vie for the title as well as points in the race for the 2016 Golfer of The Year (Goty) series.

The team will use the Nyeri event as its final preparation before flying out to South Africa on Monday for the Africa Strokeplay Championship to be held at the Leopard Creek— one of South Africa’s top golf resorts. The players have been in top form since the qualifying tournament at Sigona where Mudanyi won with an impressive five under score.

In Nyeri, the four will be among the hot favourites for the title. However, defending champion John Karichu, Mike Kisia of Vet Lab, Muthaiga’s Jeff Kubwa and Royal Nairobi’s Dennis Saikwa will not be resting on their laurels.

Saturday’s first round gets under way from 7am. Meanwhile, the country’s top lady golfers will be at Sigona Golf Club this weekend for the Sigona Ladies Open.
