Sylvester Owuor tops amateurs in KCB Tour

Nyanza Golf Club’s Sylvester Owuor emerged the amateur winner of the KCB Golf Tour tournament at the par 70 Nyanza Golf Club course at the weekend.

Owuor parred three holes in the outward nine where he made five bogeys and one double bogey for 19 points.

At the back nine, the handicap 16 Owuor birdied one hole, but against five single bogeys and one double bogey for 20 and a total of 39 points.

"I dropped a number of shots but I’m happy I still managed to bring a winning score. I will definitely seek to defend my victory come next year," he said.

He won by the narrow margin of a point from the seven handicapper Joseph Atito who combined 18 and 20 for 38 points.

In third place was Evans Manono (37), while Dorcas Bett took the ladies title with 34 points. She won on countback from Eunice Adhiambo. Betty Bisonga was the guest winner with 35 points, while Eliud Siganga (29) took the staff prize.

KIRUI SECOND

Allan Kirui was second on 27 and the nine winners were D.O.Ajului and Thomas Abol on 14 and 26 points.

A total of 110 players participated in the event whose pro event was won by Mumias-based golfer Dismas Indiza.

At the Kenya Railway Golf Club, James Karuga carded 36 points to win the 2015 edition of the ‘Morning Team’ golf tournament sponsored by East Africa Cables.

Karuga beat Paul Ngugi on countback, while Mutua Kitulu, on 35 points, was third. Simon Karemu, on 33 points, finished fourth. The ladies winner was Florence Kamau 31 points, ahead of Shelmith Muraguri on 28 points.

Samwel Njoroge clinched the gross title with 27 points and the sponsors winner was Lee Njoroge who carded 24 points. Simon Ndegwa emerged the best guest on 25 points.

MUTEGI WON

At Ruiru, Paulino Mutegi carded 41 points to win the J.W. Ndururi Memorial golf tournament by three points from Chris Andrea on 38 points. In third place was Dominic Mathu with 37 points and the ladies first prize went to Irene Wamoto with 34 points, winning on countback from Margaret Kamau.

Ian Gichia represented the sponsors with a score of 33 points, and the guest winner was Richard Ngui on 28 beating John Nduati on countback. Angelius Maina and Gitau Robert won the first and second nine with 19 points each.
