Team for continental event to be named next month

The Muthaiga Open is on this weekend at Muthaiga where the country’s leading amateurs will be joined by the country’s professionals, who are using the event as their third leg in the “Race to 2017 Kenya Open’’. 

Wanjalla said the selected players will then undergo a serious training to prepare for the Region Five Championship, where Kenya is being represented by one team of four players.

This year’s championship will be held at Nkana Golf Club in Kitwe Zambia from April 10 to 14.

Meanwhile, the Junior Golf Foundation(JGF) has organized a fund raising tournament this Friday at Muthaiga Golf Club to try and rise Sh1.5 million to send a boys and girls teams to this year’s All Africa Junior Golf Championship.

The AJGC championship, a qualification for the Toyota World Junior Championship, will take place at Royal Harare Golf Club in Zimbabwe from March 26 to 31. Gitonga Kabera, the JGF president on Monday appealed to Kenyan golfers to support the fund raiser.

He said the Harare-bound teams will consist of four players for the boys team and three players for the girls team, The fund raising event has meanwhile received support from Davis & Shirtliff, Crown Paints, Britam, DMC foundation, Prime Bank, Crown Plaza Nairobi, UAP-Old Mutual Group, Sankara Hotel, Ole Sereni , Air Kenya, Nomadic Tents, Shivtronics, and Muthaiga and Sigona Golf Clubs.

Kabera said the entry fee for individual players will be Sh2,500 per player, and the format will be Texas Scramble.
