Chairman and Captain’s Prize events once again dominate the golfing scene this weekend as the 2016 season approaches its home stretch.

The chairman’s events are set for Thika Sports Club and Sigona Golf Club, while Kenya Railway Golf Club host the Lady Captain’s prize (Joyce Kananu Gikunda).

The men Captain’s Prize tournaments are set for Limuru and Vet Lab Sports Club. The biggest field will, however, be at Thika Sports Club where club chairman Charles Ngunjiri is hosting over 250 players.

The event is sponsored by the Kenya Forest Service, Kenya Wine Agencies Limited, DStv, Johnnie Walker, Crown Paints and DT Dobie. Ngunjiri said the par 72 Thika course, though in an excellent condition, was likely to be very challenging and tricky.

“As long as one stays on the fairway he or she will score well," said Ngunjiri.

“The rough is short but very tough. All the same, I would like to assure golfers that they will be in for a good fun day."

The low handicappers are likely to have a field day in the present conditions.

Among the single figure handicappers drawn include the club’s leading golfer Patrick Kingori, long hitting Edwin Kiarie, David Matano, Anthony Mwaura, Simon Ndungu and Peter Nganga.

At Railway, lady captain Joyce Gikunda has a field of 132 with more expected through post entries.

The Captain’s Prize at Vet Lab is a two-day affair with the first round expected to start at 6.30am Friday while the second round of the event will take place on Saturday.

The event is being sponsored by Canopy Lawns and Gardens and NAS Cuisine. “It will be a splendid day as we have an array of prizes for the winners and a lot of entertainment for all," said Gikunda.
