Veteran lady golfer Mary Karano shines in Kabete Open

Former ladies’ champion Mary Karano used home course advantage to claim the Kabete Ladies Open golf championship at Vet Lab Sports Club at the weekend.

“The course was playing well as it had been prepared for the men’s Kabete Open. I am happy I was the overall winner,” said Karano, who is also the club’s lady captain.

Taking the Silver Division title with 81 gross was Sarah Khanyereri from Golf Park. She beat national ladies champion Kellie Gachaga by a shot while taking the bronze title was Joyce Murigi with 93 gross, four shots better than Liz Muriuki.

Former Vet Lab lady captain Mary Maingi claimed the nett title in the Silver Division with an impressive 69 nett, winning by three shots from Golf Park’s Frankie Gichuru. The Bronze Nett Winner was Stacy Githinji on 75 after beating Melvin Steinmann on countback.

Winning the Subsidiary event with an excellent 43 points was Judy Njuguna.
