Wafula team tops Railway

The top team of Kenya ladies’ amateur champion Naomi Wafula, former champion Mary Karano and Purity Muthoni put together a combined score of 85 points to win the 2014 Railway Ladies Invitation at Kenya Railway Golf Club course at the weekend.

During the CIC Insurance-sponsored event, the newly-crowned ladies’ champion Wafula posted 30 points, while Karano and Muthoni carded 28 and 27 points, to win the team title by one point.

They beat the team of Shelsmith Muraguri, Alice Mbuchucha and E. Mbuthia. Finishing third was the team of Margaret Gacheri, Mary Monari and Sarah Khanyereri.

Winning the individual title with an impressive score of 37 points was Grace Mucheru who beat Joy Ndonga by seven points and Carol Itangata was the best lady guest with 34 points.

New committee

The subsidiary (men) was won by Collins Ojiambo on 36 points, beating Sam Onyambu by a point and Machakos Golf Club’s John Maingi was the best guest with 36 points. At Nakuru, John Muriithi carded an excellent 44 points to claim the overall title during an event held to usher in the club’s new committee.

He won by four points from Rajesh Thakkar who took the second prize on 40 points and finishing third in the high scoring tournament Josiah Ruttoh with 39 just two points better than fourth placed John Kibore on 37.

In the ladies’ section, Nancy Muhia currently enjoying a great form, carded 39 points while leading the juniors was Annop Sahota with 32 points followed by Mark Njuguna and Tevin Kihumba on 30 points each.

Raphael Kimani and Club Chairman Michael Kandie won the first and second nine prizes on 21 and 20 points.

During the Easter Golf Tournament Josiah Ruttoh took the overall title with 40 points, one better than George Ketem with 39 points after a countback with  Eric Rugo.

Pancras Kuria and Thomas Chege took away the nines prizes with 22 and 20 points respectively. The club hosts the Chairman’s prize this weekend.
