Greensharks secured a 2-0 win over Parkroad Badgers in a Kenya Hockey Union men’s Premier League match at the City Park Stadium.

Goals from Leon Magomere and Chris Wokila gave Sharks all the three points.

The win saw Sharks move to 37 points, 12 points behind runaway leaders Kenya Police who top with 49 points.

Earlier, Wazalendo dislodged Butali Sugar Warriors from third place after they beat Parklands 2-1 in another men’s top flight encounter at the same venue.
Stanley Chege scored what proved to be the winning goal after 17 minutes.

Wazalendo had taken the lead after seven minutes as Job Omondi sounded the board from an Elly Mwanzi short corner. However, Parklands levelled a minute later through Chumila Kavere’s field goal.

MADOWO BRACE

In the women’s Premier League, a brace from Yvonne Madowo gave Amira Sailors a 2-0 win over Kenyatta University Titans at the same venue.

Madowo struck in the 17th and 58th minutes to hand her side the three points and their second win of the second leg campaign. The win took Sailors to third in the log with 27 points, four behind second placed United States International University of Africa.

Sharks coach Ben Owaga was impressed with the result but called on his team to be more clinical in front of goal.

“We should have buried this match early on but I am glad the chances we missed did not come to haunt us,” Owaga told Nation Sport.

Parkroad started brilliantly but were undone by lapses in defence as Sharks picked them out in the 19th minute following a short corner.

Magomere’s shot deflected off a Badgers defender wrong footing Allan Agesa in goal.

Shakrs continued to see more of the ball and were more adventurous than their opponents who lacked the killer instinct in the opponents circle.

Sharks eventually made the points safe five minutes to the end as Wokila’s well taken shot put the game beyond Badgers, who remain fifth on the log.

“We were poor in most departments and made it too easy for them. We have got to be better than this if we want to finish higher this season,” Badgers coach Cyrus Kanyi said.

Wazalendo are now on 35 points, two more than former champions Butali, who are yet to play a match in this second leg campaign. Wazalendo coach Fidhelis Kimanzi wants his charges to aim for a top two finish.

“Parklands are a strong side and we really had to dig deep for the three points and I hope this resilience can work for us in the coming matches,” Kimanzi said.
