Nairobi Simba roared to the top of the men’s hockey Premier League on Saturday when they mauled visiting Western Jaguar 10-3 at City Park.
The resounding victory was enough to dislodge Kenya Police as Simba improved their tally to 15 points, one better than the men in blue.
Gurucharan Singh sunk four goals, Jaspreet Kalsi rifled in a brace while Amit Rajput, Amrijpal Gataure and Ashok scored one apiece for Simba.
Michael Cheruyot’s hat-trick could not pull Jaguar out of Simba’s mouth.
Kenya College of Accountancy University registered their third win, beating visiting Mvita XI from Mombasa 3-1 at the same venue.
Collins Songa (8th), Ken Gachara (18th) and Gordon Oduor (56th) scored for KCA-U as Wycliffe Odour(60th) replied.
Nairobi Simba’s lead could be short-lived today if the solid Police dispatch Wazalendo at the same venue. Wazalendo conceded two goals in their last meeting with Police, which cost them a place in last season’s Premier League final.
They finished in top four to qualify for the semi-finals. “We have no grudge against Police but poor officiating that really demoralised my players,” said Wazalendo coach Evans Bwogando.
On Sunday, women’s leaders and defending champions Telkom Orange hopes to break Virgin Vikings.
