Strathmore University may have secured a walkover against Yobe from Nigeria on Thursday but a gigantic battle reminiscent of the biblical David versus Goliath one awaits them on Friday at the National Hockey Stadium, Accra.
“Everybody is here to give in a shot, and so are we. It’s a tricky battle but we hope to down the champions and give Kenya what they have missed in 12 years,” Strathmore skipper Ken Nyongesa said.
“It was disappointing to get a walkover after our intensive preparation. We wanted to gauge ourselves before the Sharkia diadem but we ought to stay focused.”
Strathmore’s key hitman, George Mutira, who was the main architect in the team’s local success in the past two seasons, is all set for a similar performance on the bigger stage.
“We are young, yes, but not pushovers. We want to leave a memorable mark on our debut,” said Mutira. “We are psyched and ready to rumble.”
