Nakuru Rally revs off

What you need to know:

  • The final round of the 2017 Kenya National Rally Championship (KNRC) Series revs off at 7am Saturday at the ASK Grounds in Nakuru County.
  • Carl Tundo, one of the leading four contenders for the KNRC title, will be the first off the ramp in the Top Fry Nakuru Rally in his Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 10 car.
  • The first competitive stage of the eight sections lined up will be the spectator section on the fields of the ASK Grounds, where cars will visit twice (at 7am and later at 2.30pm) in the course of the competition. 

The final round of the 2017 Kenya National Rally Championship (KNRC) Series revs off at 7am Saturday at the ASK Grounds in Nakuru County.

Carl Tundo, one of the leading four contenders for the KNRC title, will be the first off the ramp in the Top Fry Nakuru Rally in his Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 10 car.

The first competitive stage of the eight sections lined up will be the spectator section on the fields of the ASK Grounds, where cars will visit twice (at 7am and later at 2.30pm) in the course of the competition. 

The rally will end at the ASK Grounds in Nakuru, where the first car is expected any time from 3pm.

The Top Fry Nakuru Rally will have its headquarters at the ASK Grounds in Nakuru.

The final round will  be 377 kilometers long of which 156kms will be competitive and will be divided into eight sections.

The first four stages will be repeated, the longest of which will be 30.59km  and the shortest being 1.76km.

Saturday, 83 per cent of the competition will be run on private land, with the remaining section being staged on open roads.

Nakuru, Menengai and Mogotio will be the centre point of action for the rally.

Ian Duncan leads the table od standings, although any of the top five drivers stand a chance of winning the title with a maximum of 25 points to score from the final rally.

Duncan leads the series with 87 points, followed by Tundo (85),  Baldev Chager (79), Karan Patel (69), Manvir Baryan (68) and Tapio Laukkanen (63). 

However, national champion, Laukkanen and Africa Rally Championship title holder, Baryan, will be missing in action.

Baryan is in France to receive his crown for winning the 2017 FIA African Rally Championship title.

The Rift Valley Motor Sports Club event, which marks the end of the series, has attracted a low entry of 18 cars.
