Kenyan teams Black Mamba and Kenya Defence Forces on Thursday bowed out of the East and Central African Championships after losing their semi-final matches at the Nyayo National Stadium handball court.

Mamba were crushed 38-25 by defending champions Police DRC, while Uganda Prisons beat KDF 36-28 to set up a mouthwatering final with Congo Police.

The Congolese handball giants served up a thrilling match for the handful of fans who turned up, with Djamal Mbenze, exhibiting his awesome dribbling skills to once again earn the game’s top scorer’s tag by netting 14 goals.

Anika Okombe accounted for three goals in either side of the half, while Ike Ikondo scored his fourth goal immediately before the final whistle to send the rest of the team into wild celebration.

Team Mamba had won all their previous matches in the tournament and they put through an inspiring fight against the three-time champions through Martin Nguli, Paul Ondawa and Augustine Okello who dominated play to score 12 goals.

The Congolese team however proved a hard nut to crack as they raced to a decisive 21-11.

Mwamba captain Augustine Okello chose to remain positive after the defeat, saying that they had learnt a lot from the week long tournament, and that they will now concentrate on the league.
