Kenya Open Bisley champion Sanford Otundo added another glint to his armoury when he won the Toyota Kenya Mini Bisley Shooting Championship at the Kenya Defence Forces Range in Laikipia at the weekend.

Otundo, a General Service Unit (GSU) Sergeant, battled the heavy mirage on the sunny course to down 502 points off 34 vee-bulls to win after sweeping both short and long range honours.

Fresh from winning the Bob Morgan Memorial Cup and the Inspector General Trophy last month at the same course, Otundo was in a class of his own, relegating Kenya Defence Forces’ Paul Munene to Super X1 class with an aggregate of 486.24v.

Munene required two points to edge out teammate Moses Wachira to Super X 2 on 484.30v in a championships where prolific female shooter Nune Bonaya of KDF claimed women’s top honours on 451.19v.

James Ngare from Presidential Escort Unit (PEU) shot 472.21v to win X1, beating Timothy Barmase (KDF) on 468.20v. Anthony Ndung’u (Traffic) won 01 on 455.17v, beating Gorge Maina (KDF) to second place on 440.20v. Sarah Chemtai went for T1 on 465.23 as Sammy Lentiyoo collected the T2 prize on 450.13.

What worked for Otundo was his great improvement in short range, which has always been his weakness. He collected 239.18v for his overall win in short range before topping up with another victory in long range of 263.16v.

“It could have been better, were it not for the heavy mirage on of the sunny course,” said Otundo.
