A boda boda operator and an hotelier are the latest winners of Sh21.6 Million mCHEZA jackpot.

Mr Richard Maina, a boda boda rider, and a father of a ten-month-old baby from Nairobi’s Kayole Estate and Edmund Cheruiyot who runs a small eatery in Kericho could not hide their joy as they received their prizes.

Mr Maina said he has already seen a bright future for his baby and that he may never struggle — financially — to raise his child.

“I am overwhelmed by the cash prize. I am yet to decide what to do and will need all the support I can get to ensure I invest the money wisely, for my baby,” Mr Maina said in excitement.

Mr Cheruiyot on the other hand said he will use the funds to grow his business.

“Since I am not married, I am focused on expanding my restaurant business,” he said.

mCHEZA officials invited financial advisors to offer advice to the winners on how best to use the money.

While congratulating the winners, mCHEZA Chief Executive Officer Peter Karimi assured the winners that they would receive financial advice to help them manage their finances.

“In our presence today are some of the best financial advisers from our partner, Kenya Commercial Bank. They will equip our winners with the necessary financial management skills to ensure that they protect, invest and spend their money wisely,” said Mr Karimi.

Also present during the awarding ceremony were representatives from Betting Control and Licensing Board (Bclb).

Mr Kimani also said that mCHEZA is willing to operate within the laid down rules and regulations and that they are only waiting for parliament to finish their debate on industry regulation.

“mCHEZA continues to follow the developments in the legal and regulatory environment for our industry. We support efforts to bring a robust, progressive, fair and consultative legal framework for the proper and orderly functioning of sports betting,” Mr Karimi said.

The betting platform which came into existence in December 2015 and is associated with Intralot, a global leader in gaming, said they are keen on developing talent in the country.

Already they have shown interest to Green Sports Africa to host the Gold Cup Tournament which will take place from August 15 – 20 in Nairobi.

“As a brand, we remain focused on nurturing young Kenyan talent and offering opportunities for the transformation of lives,” Mr Kimani added.
