Kenya dominated the East African Karate Championship at the Safaricom Kasarani stadium on Saturday scooping all but one of the medals available.

Isaack Wambua and Vitalis Kemoi won gold in the seniors’ kata and kumite event to ensure Kenya secured the overall winners.

Wambua led a clean sweep of kata duels with Erick Karisa and Ronaldo Kimani winning silver and gold medals respectively.

The 28-year-old Wambua, who took part in the under 60kg, saw off the challenges of South African Thabo Thekiso and Ugandan Tito Mbola on his way to gold.

“I put into practice all the moves that I learnt through the week in training and indeed they came in handy as they helped me beat all my opponents. I want to build on this victory going into the next event”, Wambua told Sunday Nation Sport.

Wambua impressed spectators in the gymnasium with his stylish moves that drew applause from both Sensei Koichiro Okuma from Japan and South Africa’s Sensei Edward.

Kemoi on the other hand was pushed all the way by Ugandan Hassan Dugga in the final.

Ronaldo Kimani scooped his second bronze of the day after finishing third.
