What you need to know:

  • Laiser Hill aim for the three points in their Pool A encounter before taking on Olympic Mixed in their second pool match in the afternoon.
  • Victory in both matches will assure them of a place in the semi-finals.

Boys’ football champions Laiser Hill will be seeking a good start when they take on Muvuti Secondary School as the Airtel Rising Stars Metropolitan Region Secondary Schools Term Two B Games get underway on Thursday at the Nyayo Stadium.

Laiser Hill, who are also the Kajiado County champions, aim for the three points in their Pool A encounter before taking on Olympic Mixed in their second pool match in the afternoon. Victory in both matches will assure them of a place in the semi-finals.

Laiser will however need to be wary of a Muvuti side who won the Machakos County title, in the teams’ first meeting.

The Kajiado County giants will rely on the services of talented winger Musa Masika and striker David Owino to steer them to the final.

Masika, a younger brother of Kenya International Ayub Timbe, was instrumental in the team’s 2-1 win over Brother Beausang in the Kajiado County final.

“Most of the players who helped us last year have since cleared school and we have a new squad. However, in Masika and Owino, we have two exemplary players,” Laiser Hill coach Anthony Kirimi told Daily Nation Sport.

LOST IN THE FINAL

Laiser Hill beat Upper Hill 5-4 on post-match penalties to win last year’s regional title before going on to lose 1-0 to Passenga Secondary School in the national finals.

The second match in the pool will pit Nairobi’s Olympic Mixed against Ngaakaa Secondary School from Makueni County.

At Upper Hill, hosts Upper Hill take on Makueni champions Utithi Secondary in what is expected to be a cracking Pool B opener.

Upper Hill will be banking on home support to get a good start and will be out to avenge their loss to Utithi in the final in the Under-16 football competition in May. Utithi coach Bernard Mutiso has called for a repeat performance in today’s encounter.

“Our target this year is to go all the way and reach the nationals, we are not afraid of any team. We are here to take the title,” Mutiso said yesterday. The other tie will see Brother Beausang take on Machakos’ Kimanza.

In the girls’ matches, champions Olympic Mixed and arch-rivals Matuu Memorial will renew their rivalry in the opening Pool B match.

Other matches will see Utithi take on Ilbisil while in Pool A, Maina Wanjigi face Mua Girls as last year’s runners up Kikima tackle Kimuka.

In volleyball, girls’ champions Kwanthanze open their title defence against Noonkopir from Kajiado County while boys’ title holders Hospital Hill will be up against Ongata Rongai Boys High School.
