A handball court has been constructed in Kaloleni, Nairobi costing Sh3 million.

The project, funded by Makadara Constituency Development Fund, becomes the latest sports facility in the constituency to be launched since the Sh50 million Camp Toyoyo grounds which is primarily for football matches.

Speaking on Saturday while handing over the facility to the local community, Makadara MP Benson Mutura urged sports stakeholders to employ a business approach to sports so as to reap maximum returns.

Said Mutura: “All over the world, sports related employment is on the rise, players, promoters, managers, sports journalists, agents, stewards, name them. This is why we should embrace professionalism in how we run sports. This is no longer only an entertainment stop-over.”

Mutura also urged the youths to take advantage of the facility to showcase their talents and eye employment opportunities.

“Sports puts all participants in equal footing, hence it’s able to transcend differences. Also, sports unites people beyond ethnic, religious and social differences. It’s a source of inspiration and motivation.”

The handball court is the second major project initiated by Mutura during his tenure as local MP.
