A chemical engineer, John Manase Buko, is the latest millionaire after winning a Sh24.8 million mCHEZA jackpot on Wednesday.

Buko, 29, walked away with the cash after correctly predicting the outcome of all 13 football matches listed by the betting firm last week.

Buko, who hails from Ngao village in Tana River and works as chemical engineer at a power plant in Mombasa, was excited about the windfall but appeared calm and relaxed even as he was presented with his cheque in Nairobi on Wednesday.

Speaking shortly before he was presented with the cheque, Buko said that it was not by sheer luck that he hit the jackpot adding that he has spent a tidy Sh600,000 in past bets.

However, for the jackpot, he used a paltry Sh800. The minimum bet amount one can put on the jackpot is Sh100.

“This is not the first time I have placed bets. I have had my fair share of losses. I therefore learnt to study the matches and the teams, keep records of their previous performance then place my bets. At times, I would take soft loans to bet and I am grateful that with all the research and hard work, I have finally won the jackpot,” he said.

Asked on his future plans, Buko said: “I’ll set up a car garage and use my experience gained from work to run it. I’ll however not quit my job.”
