A Mombasa-based housewife has become Kenya’s latest millionaire after winning a cool Sh1 million in a Lotto draw.

Mwakisha was delighted by her win and could not hide her joy.

“I only started playing Lotto recently, and it was just for fun, but it has paid off now,” said Mwakisha. The mother of three indicated that she would use her winnings to establish a small business to enable her to earn some income.

“Now that I’ve received a financial boost, I will start a retail business that will sustain me and help me feed my young children,” she added.

OTHER WINNERS

Other lucky winners during the draw were Wycliffe Oduor and Grace Wanjiru who won Sh100,000 and Sh75,000 respectively, while Alex Wanjala, Veronica Gatua, Eunice Rotich, Samuel Thiongo, Simon Njoroge, Margaret Gichimu, Thomas Nyaga and Sharon Ego each won Sh50,000.

The draw produced a total of 12,603 winners who were verified by the Betting Control and Licensing Board on live television. The lowest amount won was Sh75.00.

Lotto has already committed over Sh15,000,000 towards Kenya’s 2016 Olympics preparations through their sponsorship of the Kenya national rugby sevens squad to their last Olympic Games qualifier in South Africa, and the sponsorship of the national team to the Junior Commonwealth Games which were held in Apia, Samoa.
