Teams that will participate in the National Secondary Schools Games set for Mombasa next week have a chance to seek inspiration from the game’s top league that will be staged in the coastal city over the weekend.

Kenya Netball Federation secretary general Lilian Annupi, in a circular to clubs and institutions, said the National Netball League will be staged Friday and the annual Governor’s Cup on Saturday and Sunday at Tononoka Grounds.

According to Annupi, the tournaments will offer a perfect opportunity for particular schools to learn the new rules apart from playing against the best teams available nationally as they prepare to take on their opponents at the National secondary school games to be staged at Shanzu Teachers College and Shimo La Tewa School.

“We want schools like Kaya Tiwi that are the reigning national champions to take advantage of this tournament to fine tune themselves as they prepare to take on their opponents from other regions,” Annupi said adding that schools will pay half the participation fee which is Sh3,000 per club.

Annupi appealed to clubs and institutions that won trophies at last year’s event to return them failure to which they would not be allowed to take part.

The secretary general also thanked corporate organisations and institutions which sponsored their teams for the East and Central Africa Netball Championships that was held in Nairobi a fortnight ago saying that the experience earned by the teams was invaluable.

Among the teams expected at the tournament are Ulinzi, Kenya Prisons, Western Stima, St Johns’ Secondary, national school giants Kaya Tiwi Secondary and Kenyatta National Hospital.
