New sports channel hits airwaves

Sports lovers can now enjoy more of their favourite events following the launch of a free-to-air TV channel Kwese Free Sports.

Owned by African broadcaster Econet Media, the channel will air some English Premier League matches, National Basketball Association season, Extreme Fighting Championship and National Football League.

The channel will also air local sports shows among them Xtreme Outdoor Africa and Ball N’ Africa, a Kenyan production on basketball players, hosted by former national women’s basketball team captain Silalei Owuor.

Kwese, which was due to go on air Thursday evening, will be available on any Free-To-Air Set Top Box or digital TV. Viewers will not pay any subscription fee and they can also stream the channel on the Kwese Now app on their smart phones or on kwewesports.com/free.

The first major sporting event which will be aired on the channel will be the match between Everton and Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday at 5pm Kenyan time. One live “EPL Game of the Week”, will be aired every Saturday.
