Newcomers Rangers Club will be seeking to record their maiden win as the Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) National League enters its fourth round this weekend at the Nyayo National Stadium Handball Court.

The Bungoma-based side have three matches this weekend, two today and one tomorrow as they look to hound themselves from bottom spot after three successive losses.

Rangers begin Saturday’s proceedings with a tie against St Paul’s University (SPU) after which they will take a break before taking to the court against Multimedia University (MMU) in the last match of the day.

Saturday’s other match will see last season’s runners up National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) play Mount Kenya University (MKU) Thika in a women’s tie.

On Sunday, men’s champions Ulinzi take on compatriots Ulinzi Youth as they chase their third win of the season.

NCPB women’s team will play their second match of the weekend against Ulinzi while the other two matches will see St Paul’s women’s team come up against MKU Thika while Rangers confront MKU-Thika men’s team.

Rangers coach Gerald Abunde says his team is in a “learning process” in their debut season.

“We have come out with vital lessons from the three matches we have played,” he told Saturday Nation Sport on Friday.

The team suffered narrow defeats of 26-29 and 40-41 against Ulinzi Youth and Black Mamba respectively in their opening two matches.

Last weekend, they went down 37-28 to former champions NCPB in a thrilling contest at the Nyayo Stadium Handball Court.

Champions Ulinzi, who lead the men’s league standings with nine points, will be out to open a three point lead with a win over their junior side.

Ulinzi team manager Sammy Mwangangi expects a thrilling contest between the two military sides.

“These teams train together, play in a similar way and this makes Sunday’s match a real classic. They (Ulinzi Youth) finished fourth last season and are definitely tough opponents,” he said.
